Distracted Driving Awareness Month

Every April, the National Safety Council observes Distracted Driving Awareness Month to prioritize roadway safety. Come by Azle Municipal Court, 505 W. Main Street, to sign a pledge and spread the message that if something takes your eyes off the road, your hands off the wheel or your mind off of driving, it's a distraction.

On average, nine people a day are killed in distracted driving crashes, but a few simple steps can reduce the risks for yourself and those around you. Here are some recommendations to help you stay focused while driving:

  • Keep your cell phone out of reach to avoid temptations of peeking at an incoming text or call.
  • Do not eat or drink while driving.
  • Do your makeup before leaving for your destination.
  • Set your desired radio station or podcast before leaving.
  • Make sure your child has everything they need for the ride before leaving.
  • Be a good passenger and speak up if the driver is distracted.

Let's spread the word and keep our community safe.
