Murkowski Begins FY27 Funding Work with Alaskans on Critical Projects Around the State

Washington, DC - U.S. Senator Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) is now accepting appropriations requests from Alaskans for programmatic funding and Congressionally Direct Spending (CDS) in Fiscal Year 2027 (FY27) through the next month.

The appropriations request portal on her website opened on January 26, 2026, and will remain open until February 27, 2026, at 11:59 PM AKST. The February 27, 2026, deadline applies only to the CDS requests. The submission window for programmatic appropriations requests will open after the President's FY27 Budget Request is released, and a separate deadline will be announced at that time.

Senator Murkowski is making the FY27 Appropriations Request Form available on her website for interested Alaskans. The FY27 appropriations process includes opportunities to request both programmatic funding and Congressionally Directed Spending (CDS), which allows Alaskans to identify and receive federal assistance for their local and state-specific needs.

The CDS process accounts for no more than one percent of federal discretionary spending and does not increase overall spending levels. Without this process, many of the federal funds now headed for Alaska would go to other states based on decisions made by unelected bureaucrats in federal departments and agencies, rather than being negotiated and determined by publicly elected representatives.

The annual appropriations process is lengthy and subject to uncertainty, and there is no guarantee that CDS requests will ultimately be included in federal spending bills. Due to nuanced eligibility requirements and limited available funding, many requests will not move forward, and not all projects selected for advancement will receive funding.

Submitted proposals are reviewed and considered by the Senate Appropriations Subcommittees on a bipartisan basis using established criteria. To apply, applicants must be Alaskan, and projects must be located in Alaska.

The deadline for Congressionally Directed Spending requests is February 27, 2026 at 11:59 PM AKST.
