REDDING - The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans District 2) and J.F. Shea Construction, Inc. are preparing to begin work on the Sundial RHMA-G Project on State Route 44 in Shasta County. The $2.23 million project will provide new pavement (rubberized hot mix asphalt) from the Continental Street Undercrossing to near the junction with Interstate 5. No work will be done on the existing bridge decks, guardrail, and drainage inlets in the area. Striping will be conducted, shoulders will be fog sealed in the project area, and paving will also be conducted on on/off ramps for Sundial Bridge Drive/Park Marina Drive and Interstate 5 connectors.

Construction activities are currently planned to start on the night of July 20. Motorists should plan for lane and shoulder closures during nighttime hours, Sunday evenings through Friday mornings between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m. Motorists should also plan for ramp closures in the project area at times, with detour signs in place.

Motorists are urged to slow down and drive carefully in and around construction areas, follow speed limit reductions in place, and allot extra time for detours or slow traffic. The project is currently anticipated to be completed by the end of August.
