Today, Governor Joe Lombardo announced the appointment of Vinson Guthreau as the new Director of the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR). Mr. Guthreau will succeed current Director James Settelmeyer, whose last day at the agency is March 27, 2026.
"As the outgoing Executive Director of the Nevada Association of Counties, Vinson has shown outstanding leadership in managing regional services at the local level," said Governor Lombardo. "I am confident that Vinson will bring his proven skills to his new role as head of the DCNR, leveraging the strength of local communities to manage the natural resources of our great state."
"I want to thank Governor Lombardo for entrusting me with the responsibility of leading this critical state agency," said Vinson Guthreau. "I look forward to working with the nearly 1,000 public servants at the DCNR and continuing the great work of this department on behalf of all Nevadans."
Mr. Guthreau currently serves as the Executive Director of the Nevada Association of Counties (NACO). He joined NACO in January 2018, after previously serving as the government affairs manager for NACO in 2006 and 2007. Mr. Guthreau has nearly 25 years of experience in federal, state and local government experience, along with a background in media relations and communications having previously worked for U.S. Congressman Jim Gibbons.
Mr. Guthreau was raised in Sparks, Nevada, attending Florence Drake Elementary School, and ultimately graduated from the University of Nevada, Reno, with a degree in Political Science and Communications. Throughout his career, he worked on issues important to Nevadans. In addition to his government affairs and communications experience, Mr. Guthreau also worked for the State of Nevada in the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.
