Food Scraps Recycling Drop-off Begins at Capitol View Market on Wednesday, May 27, 2026

Free food scraps recycling drop-off begins at the Capitol View Farmers' Market on Wednesday, May 27, 2026.

Look for the free food scraps drop-off tent to compost your coffee grounds, eggshells, and appropriate vegetable and fruit scraps.

At the food scraps tent you can get a free bucket for carrying food scraps, guides, and even fun stickers about our collection goal.

The Capitol View Market is the fourth neighborhood food scraps drop-off site to open for the season.

We also have neighborhood food scraps drop-offs at the Madison Eastside Farmers' Market, South Madison Farmers' Market, and the Westside Community Market.

Capitol View Farmers' Market Details

You will find the Capitol View Farmers' Market at 5901 Sharpsburg Drive.

Food scraps drop-off will be available at this market on Wednesdays from 3:00pm to 7:00pm

The appropriate scraps will be accepted every Wednesday at this market starting on May 27, 2026, and ending on October 14, 2026.

For more information about the Capitol View Farmers' Market, visit their website.

What food scraps can you bring to the market to compost?

You can bring coffee grounds, eggshells, raw fruits, raw vegetables, and other similar scraps.

Do not bring meat, bones, baked goods, compostable plastics, paper products, grease, or dairy products (including cheese).

Read more about what you can, and cannot, bring in for composting to the food scraps drop-off sites on the Streets Division's Food Scraps website.

Staff at the food scraps drop-off tent will be there to help you, too, if you have any questions.
