House Republicans' SECURE Data Act is a Sham

Bill Considered by House Committee Would Leave Americans' Data More Vulnerable

June 03,2026
WASHINGTON, DC-American Association for Justice (AAJ) CEO Linda Lipsen issued the following statement after the House Energy and Commerce Committee held a hearing on the SECURE Data Act:
"While House Republicans' SECURE Data Act purports to protect Americans' privacy, it would actually leave tens of millions of consumers more vulnerable than they were before. The bill includes sweeping preemption that would wipe out current data privacy protections under state law, leaving Americans less protected and with no ability to seek accountability when their privacy is violated. Lawmakers should reject this sham bill and instead work together on bipartisan legislation that ensures the safety and privacy of every American."
