Augusta, Maine - Fifteen years ago today, key components of ACA's Patient's Bill of Rights went into effect, solidifying provisions like protecting children with pre-existing conditions and prohibiting insurance companies from implementing lifetime limits on coverage.
In light of this anniversary, Maine Democratic Maine Democratic Party spokesperson Tommy Garcia released the following statement on Susan Collins' long history of voting to weaken and dismantle the ACA:
"Susan Collins has a decades-long record of working to weaken and dismantle the Affordable Care Act, which has saved Mainers tens of millions of dollars, expanded coverage, and protects those with pre-existing conditions. Just last week, she voted against extending ACA enhanced premium tax credits that are set to expire, which will cause health care to get more expensive for thousands of Mainers. In 2026, Mainers will reject Collins for her ongoing threats to our health care."
REMINDER: Susan Collins "voted over a dozen times to repeal or undermine the Affordable Care Act, which has saved older Mainers more than $87 million by closing Medicare's coverage gap," expanded coverage for tens of thousands, and overall reduced costs while increasing access to care. Last week, Susan Collins voted against extending the ACA enhanced premium tax credits that are set to expire, which will leave 50,000 Mainers with skyrocketing health care bills.
