Call for Artists! New Project to Bring Art to Everyday Infrastructure

The City of Concord Public Art Commission is seeking artist submissions for a traffic signal box art wrap project. Selected artists will have their designs applied to traffic signal boxes in neighborhoods across the city.

This is the latest project initiated by the Public Art Commission with support from City Council to integrate art into everyday infrastructure and add color and vibrancy to public spaces. Additional public art projects spearheaded by the Commission include the Downtown Concord temporary sculpture show, a new mural in Downtown Concord and one at Les Myers Park, new bus wraps for three Rider Transit buses, and the creation of an interactive public art map for residents and visitors to easily locate and explore public art across the city.

The traffic signal box art wrap project is a paid opportunity with each selected artist receiving a stipend of $500 per artwork used, with a maximum of three artworks per artist. Selected artwork will be added to traffic signal boxes at seven intersections throughout the city, including some of the city's busiest, like the intersection of Bruton Smith Boulevard and Highway 29 near Charlotte Motor Speedway.
