Tropical Depression 19 Update for the Florida Keys

US National Weather Service Key West Florida update on newly formed Tropical Depression #19: The depression is expected to strengthen into a tropical storm later today, and continue strengthening if the depression remains over water. Reconnaissance aircraft will investigate the depression this morning. The flight will collect data to better sample the structure of the system.

‼️A Small Craft Advisory is in effect for all the coastal waters of the Florida Keys

‼️A Coastal Flood Advisory is in effect for all the Florida Keys

Steering mechanisms, storm structure, interactions with land, and intensity changes will all play a role in the future track of Tropical Depression 19. While all of the Florida Keys are outside the 5-day forecast track cone, the potential impacts to the Florida Keys, if any, are possible during the middle of next week.

What should I do?

✔️ Consult trusted sources for hurricane information: hurricanes.gov, weather.gov/key, and @NWSKeyWest on Facebook.

✔️Assess your risk now when you have time to think and plan, and not when a hurricane threat is imminent.

✔️Every tropical cyclone's impact is unique. Do not assume the potential weather impacts will be the exact same at your location as a past tropical cyclone that seemed to have a similar track or intensity as the forecast for Tropical Depression 19.

✔️Stay weather aware and routinely check for forecast updates. Do not anchor on initial forecasts, there will be adjustments to the forecast track cone. Remember, the forecast track cone is based on the average error over the past five years, and the center of the storm will remain inside the cone 2/3rds of the time.
