Gig economy companies must help riders amid high fuel prices caused by the conflict in Iran, GMB Union has said.

The union has written to Uber, Deliveroo and Bolt calling on them to support drivers through this period.

Petrol prices have risen at their fastest rate since 2022, reaching their highest level in 18 months on Friday. [1]

Eamon O'Hearn, GMB National Officer, said:

"Gig economy giants like Uber and Deliveroo make money all year round from drivers' hard work.

"Now times are tough - our members need some help back.

"The conflict in Iran has caused an unprecedented spike in fuel prices - bosses need to help drivers now if they want to keep them on the platform."
