Inauguration Week offers opportunities to serve community

March 20, 2026

The words "meaningful service" are ingrained in the mission statement of Campbell University, and service will play a big role in the Inauguration Week festivities of Campbell's sixth president, Dr. William M. Downs.

On the eve of Downs' Investiture Ceremony, the University will celebrate a Day of Campbell and Community Service, with several opportunities for students, faculty, staff and alumni to volunteer for various nonprofit organizations and events in Harnett County. A majority of the events are scheduled for March 26, with other opportunities available earlier in the week and throughout the semester.

Blood drives, supply drives, work with senior citizens, clean-ups and partnerships with local organizations will be among the service projects scheduled for the week, according to Rev. Morgan Pajak, associate campus minister and director of community engagement at Campbell.

"As we were planning the day and the week, we wanted to focus on the local organizations that we work with already and acknowledge the gift of Campbell being placed in Harnett County," Pajak said. "I am grateful that service is not only a pillar of Campbell University, but also in the heart of Dr. Downs."
