Capitol Police, Blood Bank of Delmarva to Host Blood Drive on July 8

DOVER, Del. - The Delaware Capitol Police will partner with the Blood Bank of Delmarva to host a community blood drive on Wednesday, July 8, in Georgetown to help replenish critically low blood supplies and honor Concerns of Police Survivors (C.O.P.S.), which supports families and co-workers of fallen law enforcement officers.

The event will be held on Wednesday, July 8 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Sussex County Family Court, 100 Market Street, Georgetown, DE, 19947.

"Whether you've donated before or it's your first time, we encourage everyone who is eligible to give," said Chief William Thompson of the Delaware Capitol Police. "A single donation can make a lifesaving difference for someone in our community."

The Blood Bank of Delmarva recently declared a regional blood emergency after supplies fell below two days overall and less than one day for Type O blood, the type most often needed in trauma care. The shortage comes as hospitals enter the busy summer trauma season and follows a 10 percent decline in blood donations, leaving collections nearly 400 units below hospital demand. Every donation can help save multiple lives-from trauma patients and cancer patients to children receiving critical medical care.

The event also honors the mission of C.O.P.S. by recognizing the sacrifice of fallen law enforcement officers and supporting the families they leave behind. Appointments are encouraged and can be scheduled at: donate.bbd.org/donor/schedules/drive_schedule/12229

Snacks and refreshments will be provided following each donation.
