Washington, D.C. - Today, Congressman Addison McDowell announced an additional $5,000,000 in federal funding for two new community projects in Lexington and Kannapolis. This announcement builds on recent wins for North Carolina's Sixth District, bringing the total amount of community project funding Rep. McDowell has secured for the Sixth District to $12,937,032.
"It's great to see federal dollars coming back to NC-06 to strengthen public safety and expand essential infrastructure," Rep. McDowell said. "Our first responders put their lives on the line every day, and they deserve to have what they need to ensure our public is safe."
Project Details:
Project Name:Joint Fire and Police Public Safety Center, Lexington, NC. NC-06.
Project Recipient:City of Lexington
Awarded Amount:$3,500,000
Project Explanation: The funding would be used to construct a new building that houses the city's emergency services. Funding would go toward the construction of a new combined facility for the city's fire station and police department.
Project Name:Turn Lane Construction, Kannapolis, NC. NC-06.
Project Recipient:City of Kannapolis
Awarded Amount:$1,500,000
Project Explanation: The funding would be used to construct a turn lane on Rogers Lake Road and make signal modifications at the road's intersection with Oakwood Avenue in order to improve traffic safety while facilitating access to the city's downtown businesses.
