Another Broken Promise: Health Care Costs Are Skyrocketing Under Trump Arrow

Today, Donald Trump held a health care affordability event to tout another one of his toothless "deals," yet under Trump, the cost of prescription drugs has skyrocketed. Despite Trump's claims, his administration hasn't taken any meaningful actions to lower prescription drug prices, forcing many Americans to choose between keeping the lights on and lifesaving prescription drugs.

A recent report found that major drugmakers have raised prices on hundreds of prescription drugs. Companies that signed drug pricing deals with Trump have raised the cost of hundreds of medications and launched new drugs at an average price of $353,000 a year, all while earning a combined $177 billion in profits during the first year of his second term.

Trump and Republicans already cut Medicaid by nearly $1 TRILLION - the largest cut to health care in history - which is projected to leave an additional 15 million people uninsured when combined with Republicans' refusal to extend the Affordable Care Act enhanced premium tax credits.

In response, DNC Rapid Response Director Kendall Witmer released the following statement:

"Donald Trump promised to make health care more affordable, but drug prices for consumers continue to skyrocket under Trump. Trump and his Republicans in Congress slashed health care funding to pay for their massive tax cuts for their billionaire friends. And now, drug prices for consumers continue to skyrocket under Trump, while drugmakers are raking in record profits. Another slap in the face for working families who are just trying to get by in Trump's America."
