Capito Highlights West Virginia Tax Wins on Tax Day

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), a member of Senate Republican leadership, recognized Tax Day by highlighting the positive impact of the Working Families Tax Cuts legislation and pro-growth tax policies that are helping West Virginian families, workers, and small businesses keep more of what they earn.

The Working Families Tax Cuts prevented what would have been the largest tax increase in history for working- and middle-class Americans. By permanently extending and expanding on the successful Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA), passed during President Trump's first term, Senate Republicans delivered on their promise to foster an environment of economic growth and increase affordability for American families.

"The Working Families Tax Cuts are delivering real benefits to millions of American families, workers, and small businesses-including many in West Virginia. By lowering tax burdens and building on the success of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, we are ensuring that hardworking Americans can keep more of their paychecks and better provide for their families," Senator Capito said. "These pro-growth policies are helping small businesses expand, create jobs, and strengthen local economies across West Virginia and the nation. As we mark Tax Day, we should continue advancing commonsense tax policies that promote opportunity, support economic growth, and make life more affordable for the American people."

WEST VIRGINIA WINS:

  • Real wages increased by $2,800 to $5,000 for working individuals and families.
  • Households saw $6,400 to $8,700 more in real take-home income, boosting financial security.
  • 78,070 small business owners can continue benefitting from the 20% small business deduction, now made permanent.
  • Seniors gains additional support with a $6,000 bonus deduction, helping offset rising living costs.
  • Pro-growth tax policies helped save 23,000 jobs, supporting local economies and workers.
  • 182,850 families will see their Child Tax Credit increase to $2,200, providing greater support for raising children.
  • 738,620 families benefit from a $1,500 increase in the standard deduction, reducing taxable income.
  • $84 million in Opportunity Zone funding protected to continue driving economic development in underserved areas.
