Las Vegas, Nev. - U.S. Senators Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) and Jacky Rosen (D-Nev.) secured $2,422,000 in grants for law enforcement projects. The funding comes from the Department of Justice's Byrne Jag Grant Program and will be distributed to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, the City of Henderson, and the Nevada Department of Public Safety.
"Local law enforcement is the backbone of public safety in Nevada, but too often our officers are being asked to do more with less," said Senator Cortez Masto. "From improving training to modernizing equipment, this critical funding will support police officers from Reno to Henderson. I'll never stop working to deliver for local law enforcement and ensure all Nevadans feel safe in their communities."
"Our law enforcement officers work around the clock to keep Nevadans safe, and I'm committed to supporting them in any way I can," said Senator Jacky Rosen. "I am proud to have helped secure this funding for law enforcement agencies across our state to ensure that they have the equipment and training they need to keep us safe."
Three grants constitute the $2,422,000 in funding:
Senators Cortez Masto and Rosen have consistently stood behind Nevada's law enforcement. They have fought for funding for the Byrne JAG grant program, the source of these grants and the leading source of criminal justice funding in the country. Cortez Masto and Rosen introduced legislation to redirect excessive funding for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to local law enforcement. Last year, Cortez Masto's bill to ensure the families of retired law enforcement officers killed as a result of their service have access to benefits was signed into law and her legislation to strengthen public safety in Indian Country passed the Senate. She is leading bipartisan legislation to combat human trafficking along America's interstates, airways, railroads, and waterways.
