World Patient Safety Day – World Health Organization (WHO) “Safe care for every newborn and every child”

On the occasion of the 2025 edition of World Patient Safety Day, launched by the World Health Organization (WHO), the Prince's Government is highlighting the Principality's commitment to ensuring care tailored to the specific needs of newborns, children and adolescents. This commitment is reflected in its strategic choice to provide support from birth onwards, with a preventive care pathway accessible to all.

In this context, the Maternity and Paediatrics Departments work in close coordination to guarantee safe care for newborns from delivery and throughout childhood, ensuring both safety and respect for physiology in the management of patients.

In addition, teams are focusing their efforts on preventing and combating childhood diseases (bronchiolitis, whooping cough, influenza) by actively promoting vaccination for pregnant women and newborns, thereby significantly reducing the risk of severe cases.

The Princess Grace Hospital (CHPG) also provides psychological support for children through a dedicated team within the Paediatrics Department, welcoming young patients in difficulty.

The WHO considers mental health to be a major contemporary challenge - a concern fully shared by the Principality, which has made it a public health priority. In Monaco, the Centre Plati (Medico-Psychological Centre for Children and Adolescents) plays a pivotal role in the management of psychological difficulties and complex learning disorders among young people. With an active caseload of 600 children, the centre is accessible to all schoolchildren in the Principality referred by a physician. It comprises several areas of expertise and brings together a multidisciplinary team of 25 professionals working closely with schools and school doctors. Depending on the needs, the centre also refers children to more intensive outpatient care at the Franco-Monegasque Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Day Hospital in Beausoleil.

Christophe ROBINO, Minister of Health and Social Affairs, stated: "The health of our young people is a priority. From maternity through adolescence, Monaco ensures a coherent, uninterrupted care pathway, resolutely focused on supporting families."
