The hull of the third Pohjanmaa-class corvette completed

The assembly of the hull of the third Pohjanmaa-class multi-purpose corvette being built for the Finnish Navy has been completed at the Rauma shipyard.

The completion of the hull assembly marks the transition of the vessel's construction phase to the next stage. The launching of the vessel will take place towards the end of the year, after which outfitting work will continue alongside the quay.

The four Pohjanmaa-class multi-purpose corvettes are being built for the Finnish Navy as part of the Squadron 2020 project. The vessels are being constructed by Rauma Marine Constructions (RMC) and its subsidiary RMC Defence Oy. The customer for the vessels is the Defence Forces Logistics Command.

Two Pohjanmaa-class vessels have already been launched and their outfitting is currently underway. The hull assembly of the fourth vessel, meanwhile, began at the beginning of August.

The Pohjanmaa-class vessels are designed for year-round operations in the Baltic Sea environment. They are capable of performing key Finnish Navy tasks, including minelaying, anti-submarine warfare, securing sea lines of communication and maritime surveillance. All four vessels will be delivered to the Finnish Navy by the end of the decade.
