North parking lot at Columbia Regional Airport to close Aug. 3 for improvements

(COLUMBIA, MO) - Columbia Regional Airport's north parking lot will close beginning Aug. 3 as construction begins on a project to add approximately 250 paved parking spaces and support the airport's continued growth.

Travelers returning to Columbia after Aug. 1 are encouraged to park in the airport's new south parking lot before departing. Free shuttle service will transport passengers between the south lot and the terminal throughout construction. Travelers should allow extra time to park and reach the terminal.

The approximately $3.2 million project is expected to be completed by early December, weather permitting.

"We're investing in improvements today to meet the needs of tomorrow's travelers," said Airport Manager Mike Parks. "We appreciate our passengers' patience during construction as we work to provide an even better experience for everyone who flies through Columbia Regional Airport."

The parking improvements come as passenger demand at Columbia Regional Airport continues to increase. In June, (COU) welcomed a record 19,584 arriving and departing passengers, more than doubling the 9,294 passengers recorded during the same month last year.

In April, aviation planning, design and development firm Mead & Hunt identified the airport as the fastest-growing airport in the United States among airports with at least 10,000 monthly seats, projecting a 107% increase in available seats over the following six months.

The airport will continue providing construction and parking updates as the project progresses. For flight schedules and additional information, visit FlyCOU.com.
