Chinese Embassy in Kiribati Holds 2026 Year of the Horse Spring Festival Reception

On 11 February 2026, the Chinese Embassy in Kiribati hosted the Chinese New Year reception. Chargé d'Affaires Mr. Zhao Jian, H.E. President Taneti Maamau, Hon. Vice President Dr Teuea Toatu, Hon. Speaker Willie Tokataake, Hon. Ministers and MPs, Secretaries, Mayors, Unimwane and Unaine, Church leaders, representatives of Chinese community, Chinese doctors and experts in Kiribati attended the reception, with more than 200 guests present.

In his remarks, Chargé d'Affaires Zhao extended festive greetings to the guests. He noted that amid a volatile international landscape, China remains a "stabilizing force". In 2025, Chinese modernization is making steady and solid progress, with world-renowned achievements, and China-Kiribati cooperation also yields fruitful results. China will unswervingly follow the path of high-quality development, and stands ready to deepen practical cooperation with Kiribati to promote China-Kiribati relations to new heights.

H.E. President Maamau extended New Year greetings and sincere wishes to the Chinese government and people. He stated that Kiribati highly cherishes the friendship between the two countries, and thanked China for its valuable support in infrastructure, health, education and other fields. He reaffirmed Kiribati's firm commitment to the one-China principle, and expressed readiness to further advance bilateral cooperation for a better future for the two peoples.

The reception featured a rich variety of wonderful performances, with a warm and festive atmosphere prevailing throughout the venue.
