On Sunday, July 12, 2026, Officers assigned to North Precinct responded the 16000 Block of Northeast Sandy Boulevard on a report of a female who was stabbed by a family member. Officers were able to safely get the victim and additional family members out of the residence. The victim was transported to a local hospital with serious, but non life-threatening injuries. A second family member also sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
Officers surrounded the residence and made loudspeaker announcements. The suspect eventually voluntarily exited the apartment and was taken into custody.
Officers arrested Jonathan A. Pete, 30 on charges of Assault I-Domestic Violence, Menacing-Domestic Violence (two counts), Attempted Assault II-Domestic Violence, Unlawful use of a Weapon (two Counts), and additional warrants. He was lodged in the Multnomah County Detention Center.

The Portland Police Bureau's Special Victims Unit is a unique collaboration between the Portland Police Bureau and Multnomah County that includes embedded system-based county advocates as well as coordination with the Family Violence Coordinating Council as a multi-agency, multi-jurisdictional intervention collaboration. Specially trained Police Officers and Multnomah County system-based victim advocates work as a team to review and follow-up on reported incidents of domestic violence. The City of Portland, Multnomah County and numerous other partners have also joined together to create The Gateway Center. The Gateway Center attempts to limit the impact of intimate partner violence through by providing multi-cultural and survivor-centered advocacy and services. Given the complexity of domestic violence, this center provides a single point of access to services and resources for survivors of intimate partner violence.
