TALLMADGE, Ohio - U.S. Representative Emilia Sykes (OH-13) announced the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Administration for Children and Families awarded $350,000 to Shelter Care Inc. to assist children and families struggling with homelessness, domestic violence, and mental health issues in Ohio's 13th Congressional District.
"This funding will help support some of our community's most vulnerable youth by providing the tools they need to overcome adversity and succeed," said Rep. Sykes, "I'm delighted to see federal investments into local solutions, and I will continue working to bring funding back to give local children the best chance to thrive."
"It is with great appreciation to share that Shelter Care, Inc. was approved for funding through the Basic Center Grant from the Department of Health and Human Services. For over 40 years, this funding has been instrumental in supporting the Safe Landing Youth Shelter program which provides residential and non-residential support and services to runaway and homeless youth in our community. Shelter Care looks forward to the ability to continue to serve our community through the contribution of this funding," said Shelter Care Inc. Executive Director Joe Rizzo.
The Safe Landing Program provides crisis and emergency services to youth, ages 11-17. Services include short-term residential care, case management, drop-in counseling, and more. Annually, more than 2,500 youth and families receive counseling and supportive services through the program. All services are offered free of charge to the youth and their families.
