Marion County Kicks Off Annual Mission: Bus Brigade School Supply Drive

Marion County is once again partnering with Marion County Public Schools to help local students start the school year prepared for success through the annual Mission: Bus Brigade Supply Their Success school supply drive.

Throughout the month of July, Marion County departments will collect new school supplies for students experiencing homelessness or financial hardship across Marion County. In addition to supporting a great cause, county departments will once again engage in a friendly internal competition to see which team can collect the most donations and earn year-long bragging rights.

All supplies collected during the drive will be presented to Marion County Public Schools during the county commission meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 4.

The Mission: Bus Brigade program, coordinated by the MCPS Families in Transition Program, provides school supplies, backpacks, clothing, hygiene items and other essentials to students in need. Donations are distributed directly to school counselors throughout the district, ensuring they reach local children and families who need them most.

Community members are encouraged to join county employees by donating new school supplies at Marion County collection sites throughout July.

Items most needed include:

• Backpacks
• Spiral and composition notebooks
• Wide and college-ruled notebook paper
• Pencils, pens, crayons, colored pencils and markers
• Glue sticks, scissors, rulers and erasers
• Pencil boxes and zippered pencil pouches
• Personal hygiene products
• New socks and underwear
• Laundry detergent
• Flash drives
• Calculators

Donations may be dropped off during normal business hours at participating Marion County facilities, including:

• Administration & Commission Office
• Animal Services
• Building Safety
• Community Services
• Extension Service
• Human Resources
• Office of the County Engineer
• Parks & Recreation
• Utilities
• Veterans Services
• All Marion County Fire Rescue stations

Every donation helps ensure Marion County students have the tools they need to begin the school year with confidence.
