Brian McGrane presented with President’s Award at Honors Convocation

Brian McGrane of Dyersville, IA received the prestigious President's Award at Mount Mercy University's Honors Convocation on Friday, May 15.

The President's Award is given each year to a graduating student who has demonstrated a strong academic record, positive engagement in the campus community, and service to others during their tenure at Mount Mercy. The honoree also illustrates the best in student tenacity, dedication, compassion, and heart.

"Brian's contributions to Mount Mercy have been immeasurable," said Mount Mercy University President Todd A. Olson, PhD. "His infectious personality, deep intellect, and gifted musicianship have enriched our campus community in countless ways. Whether through his leadership in music ensembles, his involvement in campus ministry and student organizations, or his outstanding academic work, Brian has made a lasting impact on Mount Mercy."

Brian was involved in multiple clubs and activities during his time at Mount Mercy. In addition to concert band, jazz band, and concert choir, he served as vice president of Emmaus, a peer minister, a member of the chess club, and will graduate with distinction in the honors program. He was also a leader in the Mount Mercy percussion section for four years and composed an original piece that was performed during a concert band performance.

During the 2026 Scholarship Festival, Brian presented his research, "MacIntyrean Insights for Higher Education," showcasing his passion for philosophy and academic excellence.

"Brian's philosophical work is the best I've seen from a student in my thirteen years here at Mount Mercy," said his faculty advisor. "And I can say in truth that he is the best philosophy student I have had at Mount Mercy University."

Congratulations to Brian, who will graduate on Sunday, May 17, with a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy and Theology and a minor in Music.
