Illegal alien from Mexico pleads guilty to fentanyl, immigration crimes

COLUMBUS, Ohio - An illegal alien from Mexico pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court to drug and immigration crimes.

Lucas Gonzalez-Bermudez, 29, admitted to conspiring to traffic more than 400 grams of a fentanyl analogue, a crime punishable by at least 10 years and up to life in prison.

According to court documents, between August and September 2025, Gonzalez-Bermudez participated in a narcotics conspiracy involving 400 grams or more of para-flurofentanyl. Agents discovered the drugs while executing a search warrant at an apartment associated with the defendant.

Gonzalez-Bermudez also pleaded guilty to illegally reentering the United States as an illegal alien.

Sentencing of the defendant will be determined by the Court based on the advisory sentencing guidelines and other statutory factors at a future hearing.

Dominick S. Gerace II, United States Attorney for the Southern District of Ohio; and Jeremy Pierczynski, Acting Special Agent in Charge, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Detroit; announced the guilty plea entered on Oct. 20 before U.S. District Judge Sarah D. Morrison. Assistant United States Attorney Sheila G. Lafferty is representing the United States in this case.
