WASHINGTON, DC - Congresswoman Nellie Pou (D-NJ-09), today joined 35 other House Democrats demanding congressional leaders extend Affordable Care Act enhanced tax credits as part of any agreement to fund the federal government. Without action, policy holders will get notice of massive premium hikes next month leading to massively inflated costs starting in January 2026.
"As Americans continue to struggle with a painfully high cost of living, Republican leaders in Congress now want to make their lives worse," said Congresswoman Pou writes to congressional leaders with other members. "If we fail to protect this ACA tax credit now, nearly half a million New Jerseyans will see their health care costs skyrocket in a few short months. This will particularly hurt entrepreneurs and small businesses that are the lifeblood of our economy. Weeks ago, Republicans imposed a tax break for millionaires paid for by the middle class. I will not accept inflicting yet more pain on regular Americans. Any government funding package must protect Americans' health care."
Pou and her fellow colleagues wrote in their letter: "Americans are facing a cost-of-living crisis, and health care is the top driver of their economic pain. We must put aside our partisan differences for working people."
