Buffalo, NY - Buffalo Mayor Christopher P. Scanlon, in collaboration with the United Irish American Association (UIAA) and the Valley Community Association, kicked off St. Patrick's Day celebrations in the City of Buffalo by hosting the Annual Irish Flag-raising Ceremony in Niagara Square on Tuesday, March 11, 2025.
"St. Patrick's Day is a time to celebrate the Irish heritage that has long been a part of Buffalo's identity and has played a significant role in shaping our culture, economy, and civic life," said Mayor Scanlon. "This weekend, we look forward to two incredible parades and I encourage everyone to enjoy the festivities safely, respect our public spaces, and embrace the Irish heritage and traditions."
Buffalo Police and city officials are reminding residents and visitors that St. Patrick's Day celebrations this weekend will result in temporary road closures and traffic restrictions on both Saturday, March 15, and Sunday, March 16.
Saturday, March 15 - Old Neighborhood St. Patrick's Day Parade
From 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., intermittent road closures and lane restrictions will take place along the parade route in South Buffalo. The following streets will be closed to traffic during the parade:
Motorists should plan ahead and expect temporary detours in the area.
Sunday, March 16 - Downtown Buffalo St. Patrick's Day Parade
At 7:00 a.m., temporary traffic delays will begin along Allen Street, Chippewa Street, Delaware Avenue, and Niagara Square as parade setup takes place.
From 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., the following closures will be in effect for the parade and post-event cleanup:
Drivers should anticipate congestion downtown and plan alternate routes as necessary. City officials encourage attendees to utilize public transportation and allow extra time for travel.
Mayor Scanlon also announced that in celebration of St. Patrick's Day Weekend, the top of Buffalo City Hall will be lit in "Green" from dusk to dawn, from Friday, March 14th through Monday, March 17th.
