ICYMI: Vindman Delivers $1,200,000 in Federal Funding for Quantico Creek Flood Mitigation project

Washington, D.C. - On Tuesday, March 10, Congressman Eugene Vindman (Va.-07) joined local leaders to celebrate $1,200,000 in federal funding he secured for stormwater and creek stabilization improvements along Quantico Creek, a flood-prone waterway that impacts residential neighborhoods and historic areas in the Town of Dumfries.

This project will support drainage infrastructure upgrades and streambank stabilization to reduce flooding, protect nearby properties, and limit sediment and nutrient runoff into the Chesapeake Bay watershed.

"Quantico Creek has been part of the Town of Dumfries' story since the beginning. I'm proud to have secured federal funding to stabilize the creek, which will reduce flooding risks for nearby neighborhoods, protect local property, and safeguard the health of the Chesapeake Bay watershed," said Vindman. "I'm grateful for the continued partnership of Mayor Derrick Wood, Town Manager Tangela Innis, and the entire Dumfries Town Council, whose leadership helped get this funding across the finish line. These improvements will strengthen community resilience while preserving the natural resources that make the Town of Dumfries such a special place to live."

The Congressman was joined by the Dumfries Mayor Derrick Wood, Town Manager Tangela Innis, and members of the Dumfries Town Council.

"As we continue planning for the future of our historic waterfront and the Old Port of Dumfries, investments like this help lay the foundation for that next chapter. This is what effective partnership looks like. When local communities work alongside federal leaders who understand the importance of investing in infrastructure and resilience, we can create real and lasting impact," said Derrick Wood, Mayor, Town of Dumfries. "Congressman Vindman, thank you again for your partnership and your support of the Town of Dumfries."

BACKGROUND

For FY2026 the U.S. House of Representatives reopened the Community Project Funding process, allowing Members of Congress to request targeted federal investments for local projects. Congressman Vindman worked closely with community leaders across Virginia's Seventh District to identify and submit requests that reflect the needs of the region.

Community Project Funding is designed to strengthen the federal appropriations process by centering local input and collaboration. Through this process, Members of Congress partner directly with the communities they represent to advance projects that are planned, supported, and led at the local level.

To qualify, projects must be submitted by a locality or non-profit and meet the eligibility requirements of existing federal grant programs. Submissions must demonstrate strong community support, ensuring that funded projects are responsive to local needs and have backing from the communities they serve.
