Congressman Davis Announces $1 Million in Federal Funding to Strengthen Rural Health Care

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congressman Don Davis (NC-01) announced that the Department of Health and Human Services awarded Rural Health Group, Inc. $250,000 and Metropolitan Community Health $750,000 to expand the SmallHealth Care Provider Quality Improvement Program and the Rural Communities Opioid Response Program.

"Eastern North Carolina families should be able to get quality healthcare in their own communities, as these funds will help do exactly that. They will go towards providing support to local healthcare providers, increasing access to necessary services, and creating an opportunity for families and individuals who are struggling with substance use disorder to receive the essential help they need for treatment and recovery," said Congressman Don Davis. "I will continue working hard to deliver so our rural communities have the resources they require to remain healthy, strong, and productive."

Rural Health Group, Inc. will receive $250,000 for the Small Health Care Provider Quality Improvement Program. The program supports our rural health care providers in strengthening primary care coordination and quality, improving chronic disease management, and using proven, data-driven practices to improve patient outcomes.

Metropolitan Community Health will receive $750,000 for the Rural Communities Opioid Response Program. The funding will support efforts to improve access to treatment and recovery services for individuals with substance use disorder or opioid use disorder in rural communities.

Congressman Davis voted for H.R. 7148, the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2026, which continued federal investments in rural health programs administered through the Health Resources and Services Administration's Federal Office of Rural Health Policy.
