On Saturday 8 November, The Green City Foundation (De Gezonde Stad) will give away 10,000 free trees at 3 locations in Amsterdam, a record number. Trees make the city cooler, clean the air and give shade. They also help birds, bees and other animals. By planting a tree, you help make Amsterdam greener and healthier.

3 native trees
You can choose from 3 native trees that fit well in small gardens and on balconies: elder, rowan or dogwood. The trees are up to 1 metre high, easy to carry by bike or public transport, and need a pot of at least 50 litres.
You can collect your tree at one of these locations:
Festive opening
The giveaway starts at 11.30 at Artisplein, with Deputy Mayor Melanie van der Horst. There you can also get a free Eetmaatje (a kitchen tool to reduce food waste) and advice on composting. At all locations, Weerproof gives tips on how to plant your tree. There will also be a food market with local makers offering sustainable and tasty food.
Working together for a green city
This project shows how residents can make Amsterdam greener. Research by The Green City Foundation shows that 85% of Amsterdammers want more trees. The foundation works with Weerproof and the City of Amsterdam.
Earlier this year, 7,500 of these trees were part of the birthday forest at the Festival on the Ring, celebrating Amsterdam's 750th anniversary.
