City of Simi Valley Expresses Gratitude Following Sandy Fire Response

On behalf of the City of Simi Valley, the Mayor and City Council would like to share the following message of thanks and appreciation to the firefighters, law enforcement personnel, emergency responders, public safety agencies, and community members who have supported response efforts during the Sandy Fire incident.

"On behalf of the City of Simi Valley, we want to express our deepest gratitude to the Ventura County Fire Department and the 1,166 firefighters from across the state who have been on scene, working tirelessly and courageously to battle the Sandy Fire since it began on Monday, May 18. Their heroic efforts, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to protecting lives, homes, and property have been nothing short of extraordinary.

We also want to thank the men and women of the Simi Valley Police Department, along with law enforcement personnel and emergency responders from throughout the region, for their dedication and service during this incident. From assisting with evacuations and road closures to protecting neighborhoods and helping keep the community informed and safe, their efforts have played a critical role throughout this emergency response.

We also want to thank the entire Simi Valley community for the way you have come together during this difficult time. Your cooperation with evacuation orders has helped first responders do their jobs safely and effectively. Your support for our firefighters, your care for neighbors, and your willingness to assist our equestrian communities and help move animals to safety where needed reflect the very best of Simi Valley.

Perhaps most of all, we want to recognize the compassion of our community. Time and again, Simi Valley residents have shown that when others are facing hardship, we step up. Whether by offering support, lending a hand, opening your hearts, or helping those in need, your kindness and generosity have brought comfort and strength to so many. Together, we will continue to support one another and move forward as one community."

As of May 22, the Sandy Fire has burned 2,141 acres and is 40% contained. Many evacuation orders have been reduced to evacuation warnings or lifted entirely. As conditions continue to improve, public safety personnel will continue coordinated repopulation efforts.

Community members are encouraged to monitor the Real-Time Incident Dashboard for the latest information on evacuated areas, road closures, and repopulation updates. Visit https://emergency.venturacounty.gov/ for official emergency information and evacuation updates.
