Nightly Lane Closures on I-680 for Pavement Rehabilitation Work Between Alcosta Boulevard and Diablo Valley Road Under Crossings

Contra Costa County - Caltrans is beginning work on a pavement rehabilitation project on Interstate 680 (I-680) in both directions between Alcosta Boulevard and Diablo Valley Road Under crossings. The project spans approximately 7 miles along I-680, with work occurring at various locations within these limits.

This project aims to address safety concerns, improve ride quality, and extend the service life of the highway.

Key activities include replacing damaged concrete slabs, grinding and resurfacing pavement, and performing roadway and infrastructure upgrades to meet current standards. These improvements will enhance the overall driving experience and ensure the long-term durability of the roadway.

Construction is scheduled to begin on March 23, 2026.

This work is expected to be completed in Spring 2028.

Crews will be working at various locations throughout the 7.7-mile project limits, and additional advisories will be issued as the construction schedule progresses and specific work areas are identified.

To ensure the safety of workers and motorists, nightly lane closures, shifting traffic patterns, and delays should be expected during construction hours. All work is weather and schedule permitting.

Current Work Schedule:

Nightly lane closures: Monday through Friday
Hours: 8:00 PM- 5:00 AM

Northbound: 8pm - 5am
Southbound: 8pm - 5am

Location:
NB/SB I-680 from Alcosta Boulevard to Diablo Valley Road Under crossings*Work will begin in the northbound direction at Alcosta Boulevard March 23rd

Work includes:
Saw-cutting pavement, replacing individual slabs, pavement grinding, asphalt placement, and other roadway rehabilitation tasks at various locations.

During these hours, lanes, ramps, and connectors may be closed. Motorists should follow posted detour signs and plan for extra travel time.We appreciate the public's patience and cooperation as crews work to improve our roadways.
