Members of NASUWT-The Teachers' Union at the Coventry School Foundation (Bablake Senior, Bablake Junior, King Henry VIII Senior and King Henry VIII Junior) are taking further strike action this week as a result of the failure of the employer to withdraw attacks on their pensions.
Members are due to take strike action tomorrow (Tuesday), Wednesday and Thursday this week. Twelve further days of strike action have been pencilled in for late February and March. Members have already taken six days of strike action.
Teachers have been told they must make a choice between moving to an inferior pension scheme or remaining in the Teachers' Pension Scheme (TPS) but taking a pay cut.
Furthermore, teachers have been threatened with being fired and reemployed on new contracts if they do not voluntarily accept these changes.
Dr Patrick Roach, NASUWT General Secretary, said:
"The responsibility for the continued disruption to pupils and parents rests with the employer and their refusal to withdraw these damaging proposals.
"The employer cannot continue to expect staff to provide the same level of high-quality education while cutting their terms and conditions and remuneration.
"The employer can avoid further industrial action by taking seriously the concerns of our members and entering into genuine negotiations."
Alan Jones, NASUWT National Executive Member for Coventry, said:
"Our members do not want to continue taking strike action, but have no choice when the employer continues to try to undermine the financial security of its staff.
"Our members work hard for the pupils of the Foundation, but feel the employer is trying to bully and pressure them into accepting these changes.
"We remain ready to sit down with the employer and seek a resolution to this dispute."
