As the Lunar Year of the Horse approaches, households across the country are beginning to purchase festive goods and prepare reunion dinners. To ensure the radiological safety of foods consumed by the public during the holiday season, Radiation Monitoring Center (RMC) of Nuclear Safety Commission (NSC) recently conducted random inspections on a total of 40 commonly purchased festive food items. All results showed that radioactive contents levels complied with national regulatory standards, allowing the public to purchase and consume these products with confidence.
NSC stated that RMC conducts annual sampling inspections of commonly available imported Lunar New Year food products on the market. The items include nuts such as sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, pine nuts, and pistachios, as well as seafood products such as pearl clams, sea snails, scallops, and abalone. All items comply with the regulator's restrictions on radioactivity in food (see Appendix).
NSC further noted that RMC continues to regularly monitor the radioactivity of both imported and domestically foods. Relevant inspection results are publicly available on NSC website (
https://www.nusc.gov.tw/monitoring/fallout.html), and members of the public are welcome to access the information at any time.
NSC will continue to strengthen radiological food safety monitoring to ensure public health and wishes everyone a joyful Lunar New Year of the Horse, as well as peace and well-being for all families.
