(COLUMBUS, Ohio) - Ohio Governor Mike DeWine, Lt. Governor Jim Tressel, Ohio Department of Development Director Lydia Mihalik, and State Tourism Director Sarah Wickham today announced that Ohio's tourism industry continued its upward momentum in 2024, welcoming millions of visitors, supporting jobs across all 88 counties, and generating billions in economic impact statewide.
"Every visitor gives us a chance to share Ohio's story, show off our hospitality, and plant a seed for future opportunities," said Governor DeWine. "We welcome travelers to discover why Ohio is the Heart of it All-because once they do, we know they'll want to return, and maybe even make it home."
"Ohio continues to prove itself as a top destination for travelers, offering memorable experiences and showcasing the best of our communities," said Lt. Governor Tressel. "When people visit our state, they see firsthand what makes Ohio special and why we're proud to call the Buckeye State home."
Ohio saw nearly 242 million visits in 2024, up 3.5 million from the year before. Overnight stays, a sign that travelers are exploring more and staying longer, totaled 48.5 million, representing 20 percent of all travel to the state.
Across Ohio, visitor activity generated $57 billion in economic impact and $4.7 billion in state and local tax revenues. In total, tourism directly and indirectly supported more than 443,000 jobs in hospitality, retail, recreation, and more.
"Tourism isn't just about attractions, it's about impact," said Director Mihalik. "It brings people together, keeps dollars flowing into our communities, and boosts local economies in every corner of our state. These numbers show that Ohio's tourism industry is strong and growing."
Travelers who visit Ohio love it and are eager to return. In fact, 93 percent of recent visitors said they are likely to return within the next year.
"We know that once people get a taste of Ohio, a river, a rooftop view, or a really good donut, they are hooked," said State Tourism Director Wickham. "That's why they come back, and that's why tourism matters."
