At Wayfair, sustainability is built into how we move products, serve customers and plan for the future. In partnership with Prologis and Station A, Wayfair is working to turn its fulfillment centers in Perris, California and Romeoville, Illinois into renewable energy hubs that generate and store clean power on site. These projects help to reduce emissions, lower costs and strengthen the resilience of our logistics network.
At the Perris Campus, rooftop solar and battery storage systems now generate the majority of the facility's electricity needs, helping advance Wayfair's climate goal to reduce Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 63% by 2035.
"This was Wayfair's first onsite solar project, and Prologis and Station A were great partners in this process," said Raul Caudillo, maintenance manager of Wayfair's Perris campus, who helped lead this project's implementation. "Their teams were easy to work with and helped facilitate a complicated process."
By generating renewable energy directly on site, Wayfair reduces its carbon footprint and improves the energy reliability of its fulfillment operations. The new battery systems at Perris extend these benefits by storing solar power for use during peak demand periods, lowering operational expenses and contributing to energy stability in the community.
"Our facilities are 24/7," said Devin Giles, global head of sustainability at Wayfair. "In particular, Perris does account for about 5% of our global Scope 2 emissions. And so implementing solar and accounting for 80% of our electricity needs on site is a really great way to drive reductions, both in our greenhouse gas emissions, but also to see business benefits and economic benefits."
Wayfair's teams on the ground are excited to see this impact firsthand. "Our facility is proud to be a part of California's push towards solar. We're contributing to our community and the planet by lowering our carbon footprint," said Raul.
Together with Prologis and Station A, Wayfair is proving how renewable energy can power a more resilient and sustainable supply chain for the future.
