Unification Ministry holds seminar on formalizing inter-Korean agreements and phased implementation measures (October 1)

On October 1, the Ministry of Unification held a seminar entitled "Formalizing Inter-Korean Agreements and Phased Implementation Measures."

The seminar was convened to explore concrete measures to institutionalize inter-Korean agreements and systematically implement them to build a sustainable inter-Korean relationship.

The seminar consisted of two sessions, "Institutionalization of Inter-Korean Agreements" and "Phased Implementation Measures." Each session featured six presenters and discussants, who engaged in in-depth deliberations.

In the first session, participants discussed how to institutionalize inter-Korean agreements in order to establish a relationship of peaceful coexistence between the two Koreas. In the second session, they reviewed the agreements already concluded and considered ways to implement them in phases.

In his opening remarks, Vice Minister of Unification Kim Nam Jung said, "It is time to bring an end, sooner or later, to the inter-Korean relationship characterized by hostility and confrontation, and to establish sustainable peace on the Korean Peninsula." He continued, "The Lee Jae Myung government, in order to usher in an era of peaceful coexistence and shared growth on the Korean Peninsula, will, as the President declared in his Liberation Day address, recognize and respect the North's system. We will not pursue absorption unification, nor engage in any form of hostile act."

He further expressed, "For inter-Korean relations to proceed unwaveringly in the direction of reconciliation and cooperation, it is essential to build a sustainable inter-Korean relationship and institutionalize peaceful coexistence. When inter-Korean agreements are institutionalized and consistently implemented on the foundation of national consensus and bipartisan cooperation in the National Assembly, trust between the two Koreas will be solidified, and the momentum for advancing inter-Korean relations and achieving peace and prosperity on the Korean Peninsula will be further strengthened."
