Minister of Foreign Affairs delivers Thailand's statement at the General Debate of the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly
On 27 September 2025, H.E. Mr. Sihasak Phuangketkeow, Minister of Foreign Affairs, delivered Thailand's statement at the General Debate of the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly at the General Assembly Hall, UN Headquarters in New York.
The Minister reaffirmed Thailand's strong support for a multilateral system with the United Nations at its core, and for UN reform through the UN80 Initiative. The Minister also underlined Thailand's commitment to the principles of international law, and the respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as the peaceful settlement of disputes, and compliance with relevant international obligations. The Minister further highlighted Thailand's humanitarian tradition in providing assistance to displaced persons from Myanmar, as well as Thailand's role in public health, sustainable development guided by the Sufficiency Economy Philosophy (SEP), and the combat against transnational crime, including online scams.
In response to the statement by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cambodia on the border situation between Thailand and Cambodia during the General Debate in the morning on the same day, the Minister expressed disappointment at Cambodia's continued lack of sincerity in seeking a peaceful solution through the relevant bilateral mechanisms, while engaging in provocative actions and violations of the ceasefire agreement, including the firing of weapons across the border into Thai territory during the past week with an attempt to internationalize the border issue.
The Minister reaffirmed Thailand's commitment to peace, while emphasizing the country's readiness to safeguard its sovereignty and territorial integrity. The Minister urged Cambodia to demonstrate sincerity and good faith, to create space for dialogue and communication that would help restore mutual trust, and to resolve the situation peacefully through existing bilateral mechanisms, for the mutual benefit of the peoples of both countries.
