Secretary Griswold Reminds Voters of Election Results Reporting Process for the 2026 Primary Election; Notes Two Candidate Withdrawals, One Vacancy Replacement
Denver, June 29, 2026 - Today, Colorado Secretary of State Jena Griswold is highlighting the process of counting ballots and reporting results, including how and when ballots are counted and when to expect unofficial results reporting on Election Night, June 30, 2026.

"Ballots must be submitted via drop box or voting center, or received by your County Clerk by mail, by 7:00 PM on Election Day. After that, election workers will continue to count ballots, voters can correct signature discrepancies, and the statewide audit is held to confirm the results," said Secretary Griswold. "A lot happens after polls close. Counties work diligently to make sure Coloradans can start seeing election results quickly."

Counties can begin processing ballots before Election Day. After polls officially close at 7:00 PM, counties will begin uploading results to the state's centralized Election Night Reporting (ENR) system.

Candidate withdrawals
Two candidates submitted paperwork to withdraw from the Primary Election following the certification of ballot content. They are:

Nick Morris, Republican candidate for State Board of Education, District 7, who had one primary opponent
Mel Tewahade, Republican candidate for US House of Representatives District 6, who was running unopposed
Because a second candidate is on the ballot for State Board of Education, District 7, no vacancy paperwork can be filed for Mr. Morris. Mr. Morris' name will not display on the ENR site.

The Colorado Republican Party has nominated Jason Clark to fill the vacancy created by Mr. Tewahade's withdrawal pursuant to 1-4-1004(3)(b)(IV) C.R.S. As a result, Mr. Clark's name will be displayed on ENR, and votes cast for Mr. Tewahade will be displayed as votes for Mr. Clark with an explanation as to why.

Election Night Reporting
The link to Election Night Reporting results will be posted on the Colorado Secretary of State's website, including on the home page and at GoVoteColorado.gov. Counties may also post results to their websites but are not required to do so.

In Colorado, results are not reported based on the manner in which ballots are cast. However, as counties can start reviewing signatures and processing ballots 15 days before Election Day, early in-person ballots and mail ballots received before Election Day will likely be processed and reported prior to in-person and mail ballots received on Election Day.

The biggest variable impacting reporting unofficial results is the number of Coloradans who vote in advance of Election Day relative to those who vote on Election Day. As counties continue to upload results periodically through the night, you can track progress by referencing the color-coded statuses that are used in the "counties reporting" map to indicate at what point they are in the process.

Note: If a court extends polling hours in any county, results will not be posted by the Secretary of State's Office until polls are closed in every county
