NEWS: Sen. Schiff Announces Deal in Bipartisan Health Funding Bill to Restore Glenn County Hospital’s Critical Access Status, Reversing Federal Policy that Led to Closure

Schiff introduced legislation last year along the late Congressman Doug LaMalfa to restore Glenn facility as a Critical Access Hospital to ensure fair federal reimbursement rates from Medicare and Medicaid

Willows, CA - Today, U.S. Senator Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) announced that a new bipartisan health funding agreement under consideration in Congress includes a policy change that will restore Glenn County Hospital's federal critical access status, a fix he sought through bipartisan legislation he championed alongside the late California Congressman Doug LaMalfa (R-Calif.).

Schiff announced the inclusion of the change in the bipartisan package, which passed the House today and will head to the Senate next week, while touring parts of the recently-closed hospital facilities with hospital leadership and local officials.

"Over the past four months, I have worked across the aisle to prevent Glenn County from losing its only hospital for good and forcing California families to travel miles to get the care they need. Now, a key victory is on the horizon as Congress will vote in the coming days to restore Glenn County's status as a critical access hospital - giving it a fighting chance of re-opening its doors.

"This work would not have been possible without the efforts of the late-Congressman Doug LaMalfa, who advocated tirelessly for his constituents in Glenn County. As we hope this bill makes its way to the President's desk, it does so as a vital part of Doug's legacy.

"In a country as wealthy as ours, good quality health care should be accessible to everyone in every part of California and around the nation, and bureaucratic red tape should not be the reason people can't get that care. I will continue working closely with federal, state, and local leaders to implement this fix, and tackle the remaining hurdles to Glenn's reopening," said Senator Schiff.

Schiff announced his bipartisan legislation in the Senate to help restore the critical access designation to Glenn Medical Center in October.
