Vice Foreign Minister Miao Deyu Holds Political Consultations between the Foreign Ministries of China and Zambia with Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs[...]

On June 15, 2026, Vice Foreign Minister Miao Deyu held political consultations between the Foreign Ministries of China and Zambia with Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Zambia Etambuyu Anamela Gundersen.

Miao Deyu recalled that Zambia was the first Southern African country to establish diplomatic relations with the People's Republic of China, and emphasized that the two countries have long enjoyed an enduring and time-tested friendship. In recent years, under the strategic guidance of President Xi Jinping and President Hakainde Hichilema, China-Zambia relations have maintained high-level development, contributing to the broader development of China-Africa relations. He reaffirmed China's firm support for Zambia in safeguarding its sovereignty and pursuing its development rights and interests, and expressed China's readiness to further deepen practical cooperation in agriculture, mining, energy and other mutually beneficial fields. China stands ready to work with Zambia to advance the revitalization and development of the Tanzania-Zambia Railway (TAZARA) and the development of the prosperity corridor along it, and to deliver solid and tangible outcomes in the China-Zambia comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership. China also attaches great importance to Zambia's role in regional and international affairs, and is prepared to enhance communication and coordination with Zambia in order to amplify the voice and strength of the Global South, and jointly uphold multilateralism as well as international fairness and justice.

Etambuyu Anamela Gundersen said the all-weather friendship between China and Zambia was forged by the older generations of leaders of the two countries, with TAZARA standing as a historic monument to Africa-China friendship. He reaffirmed Zambia's steadfast adherence to the one-China principle and confirmed that Zambia will continue to firmly support China on issues related to its core interests and major concerns. He noted Zambia's appreciation for China's zero-tariff treatment for all African diplomatic partners, describing it as a demonstration of China's responsibility as a major country and a model of South-South cooperation. Etambuyu Anamela Gundersen said that Zambia looks forward to further deepening cooperation with China and drawing on China's development experience. He expressed sincere gratitude for China's timely and robust support for Africa's peace and development and its efforts to tackle various challenges including pandemics. The Zambian side fully endorsed the major concepts and initiatives proposed by President Xi Jinping, and expressed Zambia's willingness to work with China to jointly advance the building of a community with a shared future for humanity.
