The individual shot and killed in the Sellwood-Moreland Neighborhood on October 18, 2025, has been identified as Michael Pena-Tapia, 20, of Woodburn. His family has been notified of his death, and they are requesting privacy at this time.

The Medical Examiner determined the victim died of homicide by gunshot wound.

One Deceased Following Shooting in the Sellwood-Moreland Neighborhood

On Saturday, October 18, 2025 at 10:05 p.m., Portland Police Officers assigned to Central Precinct responded to reports of gunshots in the area of Southeast 17^th Avenue and Southeast Harold Street. When officers arrived, they found a male victim down on the sidewalk. Paramedics responded and confirmed the victim was deceased at the scene.

The suspect or suspects left the scene and no immediate arrests were made.

The Portland Police Detective Division Homicide Unit is responding to the scene to investigate the case.

During the investigation, Southeast Harold Street is closed between Southeast Milwaukie Avenue and Southeast 18^th Avenue, and Southeast 17^th Avenue is closed between Southeast Insley Street and Southeast Ellis Street.
