Treasury and AccessAbleUSA Announce New Accessibility Guides for Visiting the New Jersey State House
(TRENTON) - The Department of the Treasury announced that New Jersey is the first state to partner with AccessAbleUSA to create accessibility guides for visiting the New Jersey State House, providing detailed roadmaps for navigating and utilizing the recently renovated complex that serves as home to the executive and legislative branches of New Jersey's government.
Treasury and AccessAbleUSA partnered to develop the guides, which are now available on nj.gov and AccessAbleUSA's websites. The guides outline useful information people should know before visiting the capitol complex, including parking, security screenings, restroom locations, and touring hours. Visitors can select the part of the complex they'll be visiting - the State House, State House Annex, Legislative Staff Building, and more - or the type of event they'll be attending - legislative meetings, State House tours, etc. - and browse through detailed guidance to plan their visit. Each guide utilizes a mix of photos, aerial map blueprints, and detailed directions to describe how to access the complex's amenities.
With more tourists expected to visit historic Trenton around America's semiquincentennial celebrations, the accessibility guides will serve as a vital tool to visitors of all abilities planning their trip to the State House. Many may be visiting for the first time ever, or the first time since the capitol complex reopened following significant renovations in 2023.
"The State House belongs to and serves the public of New Jersey. All are welcomed and encouraged to visit and see where history is honored - and made - each day," said State Treasurer Aaron Binder. "Treasury is proud to have played a role in helping these guides come to fruition, so that people of all abilities can confidently plan their visit."
"New Jersey is the first state in the country to provide this level of detailed, public access information for its State House, said Gregory Burke, founder and Chief Executive of AccessAbleUSA. "These guides go beyond minimal or one-size-fits-all descriptions - they give people clear, practical information so they can decide for themselves whether and how to engage. That kind of clarity supports dignity, independence, and fuller participation in public life. It shows how practical access can strengthen democracy wherever it takes place."
