BMI Remembers Influential Composer Bobby Prince

BMI is saddened by the passing of renowned composer and longtime BMI affiliate Bobby Prince, who died on June 20th at age 81. Prince was a pioneering video game composer and sound designer whose groundbreaking work helped define the sound of early first-person shooters and elevate video game music as a respected art form. His unmistakable scores for titles including Wolfenstein 3D, Doom, Duke Nukem II, Duke Nukem 3D and Rise of the Triad left an indelible mark on gaming history, shaping the intensity, atmosphere and identity of a generation of landmark games.

Prince's influence was recognized throughout his career. In 2006, the Game Audio Network Guild honored him with its Lifetime Achievement Award for his exceptional contributions to game audio. Earlier this year, his 1993 score recording for Doom was inducted into the National Recordings Registry of the Library of Congress, further cementing its place in American cultural history.

Bobby Prince's creativity, innovation and enduring impact continue to inspire generations of composers, sound designers, gamers and music fans around the world. He will be missed by his friends, fans and family at BMI.
