SPARKS, Nev. - The City of Sparks will join Judge Barry Breslow of the Second Judicial District Court on Wednesday, May 6, at 8 a.m. on the front steps of the historic downtown Reno courthouse, 75 Court St., to commemorate America's 250th birthday.

The ceremony will feature remarks from Judge Breslow and Sparks Mayor Ed Lawson, along with performances by the Reed High School Band, vocalist Kathy Lantz, and traditional bagpipers. It is part of the yearlong "America250 Moment of Honor" series led by the court to reflect on the nation's history and to educate, engage, and celebrate Nevada's contributions to the American story.

The ceremonial courtroom, Department 15, will be open for public tours following the ceremony.

Additionally, as part of the America250 commemoration, the City of Sparks invites residents and visitors to attend its "Celebrate Sparks" event and mural unveiling on June 27 from 4 to 10 p.m. on Victorian Avenue.

The free, family-friendly event will honor Sparks' history and celebrate the city's contribution to building the American West with the unveiling of a new mural by artist Jamie Vincek at the Tony Armstrong Amphitheater.

"We will also have live music, food trucks, yard games, and complimentary historical tours provided by volunteers from the Sparks Heritage Museum," said Special Events Supervisor Raquel Monserrat.

The celebration is an official America250 Nevada event and part of the statewide semiquincentennial celebration.
