Gov. Reynolds issues statement on ‘Families First Bill’ passing Iowa Senate and House

Governor Kim Reynolds released the following statement in response to both the Iowa House and Senate passing HF 889, a bill to provide four weeks of paid maternity leave and one week of paid paternity leave for state employees:

"After working on it for three years, the families first bill is finally headed to my desk," said Gov. Reynolds. "Thank you to the House and Senate for passing this bill to give state employees paid parental leave, joining 24 other states and the federal government. This bill will provide the crucial time needed for employees to bond with their newborn children."

The bill also provides four weeks of paid leave for state employees who adopt a child.
