A Billion Dollars of Giving: The Home Depot Foundation Reaches Historic Milestone

From the very beginning, our founders believed success comes with a responsibility to give back. Today, that founding principle has reached a monumental milestone: The Home Depot Foundation has officially surpassed $1 billion in charitable giving. This milestone represents far more than just a number; it represents life-changing moments. It is a testament to our ongoing commitment to showing up when it matters most and creating generational impact for families across the country.

The Beginning

While The Home Depot Foundation was officially established in 2002 to formalize our mission and ensure sustainable, long-term impact, our spirit of service was baked into our culture long before then. Team Depot, our associate volunteer force, was established in 1993. Since 2011 alone, Team Depot has completed an astounding 27,000 projects-averaging 150 projects a month, or 5 projects a day. We simply couldn't do this work without our dedicated associate volunteers and Community Captains.

Scaling the Three Pillars of Impact

The journey to $1 Billion has been driven by a strategic focus on three core pillars, allowing us to change the trajectories of entire communities:

  • Veteran Housing: A major turning point occurred in 2011 when we sharpened our focus on U.S. military veterans. Since then, we have invested over $650 million to improve more than 70,000 veteran homes and facilities. We are actively charging toward a $750 million pledge by 2030, delivering mortgage-free smart homes to catastrophically wounded veterans, completing critical home repairs for senior and low-income veterans, and ensuring those who served have a safe, warm, and dry place to sleep.
  • Disaster Response: From preparation to recovery to rebuilding, we are there for communities in crisis. In 2025, we responded to major events like the LA wildfires and flooding in Central Texas. A huge part of that response is our Home Depot bucket relief kits; since 2011, we've packed more than 56,000 of these kits and placed 46,000 of them directly into the hands of those who need them most. Through this tangible relief and the dedication of our Team Depot volunteers who come back day after day long after the headlines fade, we help families stand strong in the aftermath of a storm.
  • Trades Training: To ensure a future for the skilled trades, our Path to Pro program is bridging the labor gap. We are investing $50 million to introduce and train hundreds of thousands of people for careers in the skilled trades. This includes our latest expansion into Boys & Girls Clubs of America, giving young people tools, training, and opportunity when they are unsure of their future.

Taking Care of Our Own

Our culture of giving starts from within. We begin by taking care of our own through The Homer Fund. Since 1999, The Homer Fund has provided nearly $300 million in assistance to over 200,000 Home Depot families, helping our people through their most difficult moments-from disasters and illnesses to house fires and unexpected car repairs.
