Bipartisan legislation sponsored by Senator Kristin Corrado (R-Bergen, Essex, Passaic) was signed into law to help recruit more people to work at polling locations from early voting through Election Day.
"Counties rely on committed poll workers to ensure every vote is counted during early voting, on Election Day, and when processing mail-in ballot, yet too many people have been discouraged from stepping up due to the risk of losing their unemployment benefits," said Senator Corrado. "By exempting poll worker's wages, we're sending a clear message that participating in Democracy should not and will not come at a cost."
Senator Corrado's bill, A-1516/S-1116, ensures that wages earned by poll workers or for processing mail-in ballots won't reduce a recipients unemployment benefits.
