Statement from Governor Kathy Hochul

"I am deeply disturbed by the 5th Circuit's ruling last night in Louisiana v. FDA. The science is clear: Mifepristone is a safe and effective form of abortion medication, and the court's decision to restrict access will only serve to make women and the providers they rely on less safe. Here in New York, I have consistently stood up to protect access to medications like mifepristone and misoprostol, stepped up when the federal government stripped funding from Planned Parenthood to ensure New Yorkers could continue to access the care they need, and signed legislation to defend New York doctors who prescribe abortion medication by telehealth to patients who live in states that ban abortion. At a time when reproductive freedoms are under attack across our country, New York will continue to be a safe harbor for anyone providing or receiving this vital care."
