Make sure your car is set for safe driving. The St. Charles County Police Department is teaming up with community partners to host a Car Safety Event Saturday, May 17 from 10 a.m. to 1p.m. at the Police Department (101 Sheriff Dierker Court in O'Fallon).
"We're here to help drivers configure their phones so they are in compliance with the new Hands Free law," says Cpl. Barry Bayles. "Drivers can no longer use their phones while they're driving, unless they can use it hands-free. We're hopeful these changes help reduce incidents caused by distracted driving."
County Police and representatives from Cardinal Glennon/Safe Kids, MoDOT and First Impact will be on hand to help connect phones with in-vehicle Bluetooth systems and set up hands-free phone mounts, as well as answer any other questions.
Appointments for assistance with car seat installations and adjustments are available through Safe Kids.
"Driving without distraction is crucial, and seatbelts and proper car seat usage for passengers is vital to protect you in the event of a crash," says Bayles. "It's not a new message, but it bears repeating."
County Police K-9s will be around to engage with visitors at the event, and Kona Ice will have shaved ice treats for sale.
